.EU is Top-Level-Domain of the European Union. Any resident, company or organisation of the EU can register such a domain. It is specifically interesting for companies who have different office locations within the EU.

Domain Limitations and Requirements

Only the following categories of companies, organisations and individuals will be able to register a .eu domain:
  • undertakings having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community;
  • organisations established within the European Community without prejudice to the application of national law;
  • natural persons resident within the European Community.

For customers of any other country, we offer a Trustee Service.

Trustee Service

.EU requires a local presence in the European Union in order to register a domain. In most cases a local presence is required for either the owner or the admin-c (Admin-Contact) of that domain. In order to overcome this barrier and make specific TLDs unrestricted HEXONET offers so called Trustee Services for several TLDs which require a local presence, also for EU. Depending on the TLD, the Trustee Service is then either added to the existing contacts, or replaces one or more of the WHOIS contacts. Once replaced the Trustee acts on behalf of the registrant and thereby makes a registration of that specific TLD possible.

In order to enable our trustee service for new .EU domain registrations please use the following parameter with the AddDomain command:

X-EU-ACCEPT-TRUSTEE-TAC = 1

The following data will be assigned to the domain when the trustee solution is chosen:

Organisation: Proxy Service Ltd
Street: Elyon Triq il-Baltiku
City: St. Julian's
Zip: STJ 188
Country: MT
Phone: +44.2032399878
eMail: [email protected]

Authorization Code

The registry authorisation code includes a total of 16 letters and digits separated by dashes, in the following format:

auth = XXXX-AAAA-BBBB-CCCC

Change language of a contact Handle

The language of a contact handle can be changed with the following API command

command=ModifyContact
contact=<CONTACT>
x-eu-lang=<LANGUAGE>

The respective parameter is called X-EU-LANG and the following values are allowed:

cs|da|de|el|en|es|et|fi|fr|hu|it|lt|lv|mt|nl|pl|pt|sk|sl|sv

The following overview shows you all available Domain Addons which can be used for this special kind of TLD. It also shows the respective API parameters which are required to activate the Domain Addons:

Addon Class Parameter to (de)activate *1) Renewal term *2) Affected Parameters *3)
Trustee X-EU-ACCEPT-TRUSTEE-TAC = 0 | 1 1 month OWNERCONTACT
Trustee X-EU-ACCEPT-TRUSTEE-TAC = 0 | 1 1 month OWNERCONTACT

*1) Parameter to (de)activate: When accessing our backend through the API, you can either activate the addon with X-EU-ACCEPT-TRUSTEE-TAC=1 or deactivate it with
      X-EU-ACCEPT-TRUSTEE-TAC=0
*2) Renewal Term: Is the minimum renewal term of the "Addon Class"
*3) If you are using a "Trustee" Domain Addon normally the original owner contact or the original admin contact or both are replaced by a contact provided by the trustee provider.

Restore Process

To restore a domain as a RegistrarOC customer, you simply have to execute the RestoreDomain command. HEXONET directly forwards the restore request to the registry, which performs the restore in real-time. As soon as the restore is complete, the domain will get assigned to your account with the original domain data.

Please do not initiate a restore directly at the registry (e.g. using the registrar webinterface). All restore operations must be performed through our system.
